Welcome to this website on the proposed redevelopment of 21 Buckle Street (formerly known as Enterprise House). The site under discussion today is located off Buckle Street, west of Plough Street and north of properties along Alie Street. The site is 0.026 hectares and is occupied by a five storey office building which is currently being used on a temporary basis by ‘live in guardians’ to prevent squatter and anti-social behaviour. The site is otherwise classed as vacant from its original commercial office use and has been since 2014.

The whole area surrounding 21 Buckle Street is currently undergoing huge transformation with a number of development proposals for a mix of uses either consented, under construction or recently completed, including Aldgate Place, 15-17 Leman Street and 61-75 Alie Street amongst others.

SACO Property Group Ltd acquired 21 Buckle Street in March this year, following the refusal of Galliard Homes’ plans to redevelop the site with an 18 storey building comprising office space and serviced apartments. These plans were refused by LB Tower Hamlets in December 2015.

Since acquiring the site we have appointed a new design and consultant team to advise on a fresh approach to the site’s redevelopment into an apart-hotel led development, taking into account the local heritage assets, other local issues and the wider context. Earlier in July the project team undertook engagement with immediate neighbours to the site as well as meetings with the Historic Chapels Trust and the Old German School Residents Association to understand how to develop the detailed design of the proposals. A public exhibition on the plans was also held with the wider community. A further round of consultation with immediate neighbours was undertaken in November.
Following this extensive consultation with the local community, the project team have now submitted the planning application for the site to Tower Hamlets. More information on the plans can be found on the “Planning Application” page.

Our intention is for 21 Buckle Street to be a “sister” site to Leman Street with 21 Buckle Street utilising the services and offer of the Leman Street site, whilst also operating as a standalone site.
